If you've landed here, you're probably looking at the Puzzlocks collection and wondering which one to get. Maybe it's a gift. Maybe it's for yourself. Either way, this guide will help you make the right call.

Here's everything you need to know about each puzzle, without any spoilers.

Two types of puzzle locks

Before we get into the individual puzzles, it helps to understand the two types we make.

Trick locks are puzzles where the challenge is hidden in plain sight. They look like normal padlocks but open through a mechanism that defies your expectations. They tend to be more intuitive and accessible, which makes them great for first-time puzzle solvers.

Sequential discovery puzzles are a different experience altogether. They unfold in stages, each step revealing a new layer of the challenge. They take longer, require more patience, and deliver a deeper sense of satisfaction when you finally crack them.

Both types are made from metal, built to last, and designed to surprise.

The puzzles, from easiest to hardest

FunLock, Beginner, Average solving time: 2 hours

The FunLock is where most people start. It is approachable, satisfying, and delivers that first great moment of discovery without overwhelming you. A perfect introduction to the world of puzzle locks.

B-Lock II, Beginner, Average solving time: 3 hours

The B-Lock II is a clever trick lock with a fresh mechanism that will genuinely surprise you. It is a great choice if you want something with a bit more to think about.

LoopHole, Beginner, Average solving time: 3 hours

The LoopHole is our most popular puzzle. There is a reason for that. It has a beautifully designed mechanism that feels completely fair once you figure it out, and it is nearly impossible to put down until you do. If you are buying a first puzzle lock for someone, this is the one most people reach for.

B-Lock, Beginner to Intermediate, Average solving time: 4 hours

The B-Lock is a trick lock with more layers than it first appears. It will keep you thinking longer than the beginner puzzles and delivers a strong sense of accomplishment when solved. A good step up from the LoopHole.

Locus, Beginner to Intermediate, Average solving time: 5 hours

The Locus hides a brand new mechanism that nobody has seen before. Even people who have solved other puzzle locks will find themselves unsure which move is the right one. It has a personality of its own and a solution that will make you smile when you finally get there.

PicoLock, Beginner to Intermediate, Average solving time: 8 hours

Do not let the size fool you. The PicoLock packs a serious challenge into a compact frame. It is a sequential discovery puzzle, which means it unfolds in stages. For its size, the complexity is remarkable. A favorite among people who appreciate clever engineering.

Ant Hunt, Intermediate, Average solving time: 6 hours

The Ant Hunt has a distinct personality. It is more challenging than the beginner puzzles and has a solution that rewards patience and lateral thinking. When you finally crack it, you will probably laugh. It is that kind of puzzle.

DanLock, Intermediate to Expert, Average solving time: 10 hours

The DanLock is a legend. Originally crafted in 1996 by Israeli puzzle designer Dan Feldman, it has been called the best puzzle lock ever made by enthusiasts around the world. It is a sequential discovery puzzle with multiple stages and two keys, one of which is unfortunately broken. Getting it open is only part of the challenge. Getting everything back to where it started is the other part. If you are buying one puzzle to give someone as a serious gift, this is the one most people remember forever.

Loki, Expert, Average solving time: 18 hours

The Loki is our most challenging puzzle. It is built for people who have solved everything else and are looking for something that will genuinely test them over multiple sessions. 18 hours is the average. Some people take longer. Nobody gives up easily. That is the whole point.

Not sure where to start?

If you are buying for someone who has never tried a puzzle lock before, start with LoopHole. It will deliver a great first experience.

If you are buying for someone who loves puzzles and wants a real challenge, the DanLock or Loki will keep them occupied for days.

If you want something in between, the Locus,Β PicoLock, orΒ Ant Hunt are all excellent choices that will surprise even experienced solvers.
